I would like to tell you that I am happy with the way the book ended, but if
I did, I would not be totally honest with you or myself. I am torn between
my affection for Leana and Rose. I can only imagine how poor Jamie felt-I
have to keep reminding myself that THEY ARE NOT REAL PEOPLE! Anyway, the end
of the book came without much fanfare. Leana did not show up, and Jamie did
not go after her. But, Rose did reveal to her husband that little Ian would
soon have a playmate. Yes, the final pages revealed that she is with child.
Whence Came A Prince was released in May. In this the third and final
book, Jamie makes his way back home to Glentrool, and rumor has it that the
finale is worth the wait! Visit

together!

Leana had to do the only thing she could do. She had to leave. She could not
bear to see Rose and Jamie together, not to mention watching Rose play
mother to her son, Ian. So, Leana left as soon as the vows were spoken
between her sister and what use to be her husband. I don't know where she
went, neither does anybody else at Auchengray...although I do believe Neda
knows more than what she is telling. Jamie is heartbroken, as you can well
imagine, and I have a feeling he will do whatever it takes to find her
again. What a romance!

Well, there is just one more day before Rose and Jamie are united in
marriage and Ian is taken away from Leana and raised by Rose. I have to
admit that I almost cannot bear to read the writings of Liz in the last
chapters of this book. It is heartbreaking. I guess I'll grab some more
tissue and finish it. Selah.

Poor, poor Leana. She has been stripped. Stripped of all that she holds dear
to her heart. Everything...except for one thing. Her Hope...her
Salvation...her Peace...her Lord. Leana has lost Jamie...she has lost Ian.
But she has NOT lost her Lord and Savior, and she is clinging to that truth
with her very life. Everything that has transpired in the last couple of
chapters I have read reminds me of God's grace. Yes, Leana did a terrible
thing. Sin is sin, but some sins have more dramatic ramifications than
others, as is proven in the life of Leana. But with a repentant heart comes
showers of grace, mercy and forgiveness. What a wonderful, loving God we
serve! I am about 6 chapters out from being finished with the second book in
the trilogy. So, the romantic hopeful in me knows that there is more to come
for Leana and Jamie.

They told Rose. She is still in shock. They told Lachlan...and he was not
happy. Are you as frustrated as I am? Why can't Leana and Jamie just be left
alone and live happily ever after? Well, there are 2 reasons. First of all,
this book is based on the Biblical account of Jacob, Leah and Rachel....so
Rose has got to become a part of this triangle some way. And I must say, Liz
pulled it off in a dramatic, surprising manner. I was wondering how she
would do it. Reason #2...Liz wouldn't have much to keep us reaching for the
book again and again if there was no drama. So, this is the way it must be.
But at least Jamie realizes what a wonderful wife he has in Leana. For that
I am truly grateful.

If you have not read the book, you might not want to read this entry because
I going to divulge information that will ruin the whole experience for you.
The following information should be read only if you are reading or have
read Thorn In My Heart and Fair Is the Rose. OK...you've been
warned! Here we go... I have been wondering all along how Liz would
incorporate Rose into the triangle after Jamie and Leana were married. Well,
she did it, and boy have things become complicated! It seems that the clerk
in the church recorded Rose's name as being the one Jamie married--which was
what was suppose to have happened. All this time he has been legally married
to Rose, but Leana is his wife...the one he now truly loves. By his own
admission, this is quite a problem. In my readings of this story in the
Bible, I came to my own conclusion of who was truly loved...I'll reveal it
later on...when I finish the series of readings. I hope I remember to do
that! I'll post again soon, so check back.

I finished Thorn In My Heart
over a year ago, and finally got around to ordering Fair Is the Rose.
(By the way, when you order it from
www.lizcurtishiggs.com, she will sign it for you!) I have been reading
the book off and on for about 5 months now, and to be quite honest with you,
I just couldn't 'get into it.' It was strange, because I could NOT put the
first book down! Well, my friends, that has changed! Rose has been sent off
to finishing school, and she has met a 'friend' (Jane) who is stirring
things up a mite! I can't wait to pick it up again! This morning in my
readings, Rose shared with Jane what had happened on her wedding day, and
Jane vowed to vindicate poor Rose...and I believe she will!! I will write
again soon..I hope you are reading with me! If so, let me know at
margy@darrenandmargy.com
An aside here... remember how I was rooting for Leana?? That is changing! Oh
my...I ken I am as flippant as the reeds blowing in the winds at
Auchengray...

There are two books that I am reading now…Fair is the Rose by Liz
Curtis Higgs and Success for Dummies by Zig Ziglar. Let’s start with
Fair is the Rose…
Remember Thorn in My Heart? It was the very first book review I did.
Fair is the Rose is Liz’s sequel. She takes the biblical account of
Jacob, Leah and Rachel and sets in the Scottish Highlands. Not too long ago,
I was reading about Jacob, Leah and Rachel in the book of Genesis. What an
upsetting story this is to me! I realize that God had a plan all along, but
my heart breaks for Leah. She truly loved Jacob, and all the while he had
his heart set on her sister, Rachel. Can you imagine the looks of jealousy
that must have taken place between the two girls? Can you imagine the hurt
in their hearts as all of this was played out? Liz’s characters are called
Jamie, Leann and Rose…but the story is all the same. It sheds new light on
the Bible characters and how they must have been tossed to and fro
emotionally. In reading the second book in Liz’s series now, and I must
admit…I do not like Rose at all; Leann is the one I am rooting for. But
unfortunately, I think I know how the story will end. If you would like to
join me in my book reading adventure, pick up the first book, Thorn in My
Heart by Liz Curtis Higgs. Let me know what you think about it…the
feelings it stirs in your heart. Maybe you will dislike Jamie…or maybe you
will root for Rose. Whatever your response is, let me know. You can order
the book at Blessings Bookstore in Dunn, or go to Liz’s website at
www.lizcurtishiggs.com.

And now the other book…

The author is one of my favorites, Zig Ziglar. I met him at Family Fest in
2003, and fell head over heels for him. He is one of the smartest, wisest
men I know, and I love to read his books. This book is designed for you to
start any where you want and it will still make sense...thus the title! That
intrigued me, so I immediately went to the chapter that I need the most help
with...goal setting. I had been praying about some things, and as God would
have it, some of the answers were found in this chapter! First of all, Zig
tells us to sit down with a piece of paper and write some things down. What
kind of things? Well, he asks the question...'If I were absolutely certain
that I wouldn't fail, and if I had all the resources necessary to get there,
what would I really want to be, have, or do?' Whew...pretty hefty question.
He suggests getting alone with a pad and pencil and just let yourself really
think. Write down what comes to mind and then let it rest for a couple of
days. After that, he gives you several questions to ask yourself that will
determine if what you have written down will benefit you, your family and
God. It's really good stuff. What makes Zig so great is his ability to
encourage you, and he does that perfectly with his side stories in this
book. Make sure you read the one on page 97 about Merlin Olsen. More entries
coming soon, so check back!
Margy with Zig at Family Fest.
