My Will or God’s Will?
God told Noah to build an ark…
Genesis 7:5 says “And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded
Him”
Exodus 3:4 Abraham at the burning bush…
“God called unto him out of the midst of the bush and said ‘Moses, Moses’.
And Moses said ‘Here am I”
Jesus called Matthew to be His disciple…
Luke 5:28 says “And he left all, rose up, and followed Him”
They didn’t deliberate over it; they didn’t pray over it; they didn’t ask
their friends and family if they should obey. They followed. That wasn’t
always the case in the Bible and it’s not always the case with us today.
(See Luke 9:57-62)
I’ve done a lot of searching for God’s will in my life. I’ve done some
avoiding of God’s will in my life.
And I’ve even tried to make God’s will my will.
So why are we afraid of seeking God’s will? We’re afraid we’ll have to give
up happiness. So we immediately go about working for Him grudgingly or try
to fit His will into our plans. (I’ve known some of the unhappiest
Christians) In reality, we’re most content when we are in His will—I’m
living proof of that.
How do we know if it’s God’s will or our will? Here are some good questions
to ask yourself:
What do you want?
Why do you want it?
Does it have to be something big?
If your answer is anything other than to glorify God, you’re probably
following your own selfish desires. We’re often so busy telling God what we
want that we don’t hear Him. Don’t follow your common sense. Don’t follow
what others say.
God may reveal His will to you and you may think “I could never do that”.
The great thing is you don’t have to—He is in us to carry out His will. When
we’re where He wants us, He’ll do the working out of His will. Finding His
will isn’t so hard. If we are in a right relationship with God, our will is
His will. So it’s not a question of what is God’s will for your life…as much
as…what about your will? Are YOU willing to let God do in you all He wants? |
