unto one of the least of these
Anyone who knows me well knows I’m a thinker. Because I’m a thinker, I
sometimes get lost in thought and tune out what’s going on around me. This
can be a very convenient excuse (especially when Margy tells me something
that I don’t remember later), but it can be misconstrued that I am
unfriendly or unapproachable. So, I try to make a conscious effort to smile
and at least say “hey” to those with whom I come in contact.
To take that a step further, I’ve been thinking about the Gospel of Christ
and how I can be a more effective witness. One morning last week I made the
decision that day to treat everyone like they were Jesus. After all, He did
say “as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have
done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40 This is still a new approach for me I’m and
terribly inconsistent. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this.
This brings to mind a song that I wrote when I was a teenager and rewrote
last year when we recorded it called “Reflection of Jesus.” The song is on
our In Every Breath CD. Here are the lyrics:
REFLECTION OF JESUS
When the world looks at you, what do they see?
Do they see a cold empty life full of misery?
If the Lord lives inside, the joy of His presence cannot be denied
When others look in the mirror of your eyes, what do they find?
Do they see a reflection of Jesus in you?
Can they tell you’re His child, does His love shine through?
The world needs to know of God’s saving grace
We are commissioned to show them the way
Do they see a reflection of Jesus in you?
You never know who may be watching your life today
Someone you may not know is weighing all you do and say
So don’t take it lightly the honor you are given to reflect His deity
You just might be the only glimpse of Jesus somebody may see
