the golden rule
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The associate pastor at
Cleveland Community Church spoke on that not too long ago. He shared with us
about a training seminar he attended while employed by a major company in
the Triangle. He was handed a 200+ page booklet that taught guidelines of
how to treat fellow workers. In the end the expert trainer summed it all up
by saying, “if you just abide by the golden rule, do unto others as you
would have them do unto you, you won’t have any problems.” Simply stated for
a not-so simplistic generation, huh?
I’m sure you have heard that saying quite a bit in your lifetime. I have
too. But it struck me in a way that I think may change my attitude forever.
As Christians our trademark is having a Christ-like attitude when we deal
with others. And I thought I was right in there among the best of them. But
when I heard the pastor speak, I began to take inventory. Do I treat others
the way I would desire to be treated? The answer was no. And a lot of times
it comes down to just being complacent…or maybe lazy is a better word.
Hmmm…it’s getting uncomfortable in here. Christ told us that if we love Him
with all our hearts and love others, then following the ten commandments
would come easy. Ladies and gentleman, pardon me while I put on my tennis
shoes. I do believe God is calling me to go the extra mile. Up for the
challenge? |
